Joseph Pilates

Joseph Hubertus Pilates

Pilates is a system of physical and and mental conditioning devised by Joseph Hubertus Pilates (1880-1967). He developed an approach to fitness which develops strength from within and reshapes the body making it leaner, longer and more toned.

Movements are performed with attention to detail and the emphasis is on quality not quantity.

Pilates is suitable for all ages and fitness levels. Used by the dance and athletic communities to enhance performance it is also suitable for the amateur sports person. It is equally ideal for those with little or no exercise experience. By improving movement skills, flexibility and strength, day to day activities are performed with ease and quality of life is improved.

Whatever your aims, Pilates can help you achieve your goals.

Pilates is also recommended by medical practitioners for particular back problems and rehabilitation after injury.

Pilates can also:

  • Improve posture
  • Relieve stress and tension
  • Improve balance and proprioception
  • Increases joint mobility and strength
